Cationic Starch (Royal CAT 30)

"Royal-Cat30" is a modified starch that is mainly used at the we tend. Cationic starches are preferred over native starches as they are positively charged and therefore, easily attracted by the negatively charged fibers and fillers. This results in increased fiber-to-fiber and fiber-to-filler bonds which in turn leads to increased strength as well as fines and filler retention.

“Royal-Cat30” is a quaternary ammonium type (Starch-O-CH2-CHOH-CH2-N- (CH3)3 Cl) which is cationic in all pH range. It contains medium level of cationic charge (medium degree of substitution). Usual dosage of Royal-Cat30 varies between 2-6% depending on machine parameters.

Cooked paste of Royal-Cat30 is quite stable. Its usage helps in following: Improvement in strength properties due to better fiber-to-fiber bonding, Improvement in retention due to better fiber-to-fines n filler bonding, Better drainage and sheet formation, Enhances utilization of recycled fibers, Gives a cleaner paper-making system.
